I spend many nights reflecting on a sentiment I was taught since birth — never question God.
As I meander into adulthood, my faith has truly begun to be tested. When I am struck by adversity, I impulsively rationalize if my God is even with me.
But then I remind myself — never question God.
Carson Wentz is a booming sensation in the National Football League.
Okay you got me, I still watched the NFL this year.
As much as I wanted to boycott the injustices directed toward Colin Kaepernick, I’m a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan currently relishing in a winning season — which is a rarity.
The Eagles were playing the Los Angeles Rams and it was another brilliant performance by Wentz. The second-year quarterback had amassed more than 275 passing yards to go alongside three touchdowns — business as usual.
That was until his squad was driving late in the third quarter and Wentz suffered a grueling hit to his leg, eventually forcing him to leave the game.
The Eagles went on to defeat the Rams, but all was lost as their potential MVP QB was diagnosed with a torn ACL.
His season was over.
Now if you follow Carson Wentz like I have — which I doubt — you’d understand how devout of a Christian he is. He is the ambassador the NFL needs in such a troubling time.
Wentz adopted the modicum “AO1,” meaning Audience of One. This inspired him to found the Carson Wentz AO1 Foundation. Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” served as the vocal point to his ministry.
Shortly after realizing his season and potentially his team’s season was not going to end the way it should have, he took to social media to offer his support and to provide insight that his faith in God’s plan for his life will never waver.
This message touched me not only as a fan, but as a fellow believer.
It is often times easy to question why God does things in a particular order unlike the order we envisioned. Or how could something so demoralizing take place in the life of someone who is living a life according to the word of God?
God tells us in Isaiah 66:9, “I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born, says the Lord.” That something new is the hope we can have in Him, no matter what obstacle we face in life, the Lord already deemed us victorious.
Only time will tell whether Wentz will come back from his devastating injury to eclipse his impressive sophomore season.
Similar to Carson, we all have battles in our life that cause us to self-reflect, to break down and look up to the heavens with questions we need answers to. When this happens, we can look back on Isaiah 66:9 to remind ourselves of the favor God has on our lives as Christians.
We must never question God, but wait and see the good He has in store for us.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” {Jeremiah 29:11}.
With all that said, WE’RE SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!![]()
